Earth Simulator Seminar Presentation
Earth Simulator is a kind of super computer built by Japanese government under their earth simulator project. The main objective of this project is to identify the problems of global warming and also to monitor the climatic change in the earth due to Global warming. It was built for Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, Japan Atomic Energy Institute, and Japan Marine Science and technology center. They start to build this supercomputer in the year 1999 and the site is officially opened in 2002. This supercomputer is no.7 in top 500 lists in November 2005. This supercomputer was based on SX-6 architecture with 640 nodes. Each node has the memory of around 16 GB and makes them totally around 10 TB memory. The Operating System used in this supercomputer is Super-UX that takes the function from BXD and SVR4.24MP based on Unix system X. Later in the year 2009, it was replaced by Earth Simulator-2.
