RAID seminar presentation
Raid stands for redundant array of independent disks. Raid is a technology that is used to store the data. With raid technology, same data can be stored on different hard disks at different places. With raid technology, the overall performance can be improved, the storage capacity can be increased. It also provides a fault tolerance were it has the ability to survive one or more disk failure.
With raid technology, same data can be stored on one or more disks in the same array. In case any one of the disk fails, the data is still preserved and it is not lost. This method is known as mirroring. One more method called striping is used in this technology were the data can be read or written to multiple disks at the same time. This increases the overall performance.
Raid can be implemented either by using a software raid- which uses the operating system driver or it can be implemented by using special hardware called hardware raid.
