Surface computing is a new multi-touch technology which allows the users to handle digital content using natural motion and using hands on the flat surface. It replaces traditional mouse and keyboard. This concept of using Natural user interface (combination of hardware and software) was introduced by Microsoft after long search and later they launched their first interactive table top product and named it as Surface
which was renamed as PixelSense
. The key attribute is the object recognition and ability of the surface to respond to the different movements of the object. The biggest challenge is its high expense which does not let it fit in household usage and currently it is commercially available for industries like healthcare, retailing, restaurant etc. This technology has gained a lot of attention due to its unique multi-user interface. It has wide future scope and we can image ourselves watching kitchen recipes on kitchen tables, paying coffee bills on restaurant tables etc. and many such applications.
